Offer adapted to visually impaired and blind visitors
Good to know
- An audio guide located at the monument’s entrance that operates with a remote control provided by the city of Bourg-en-Bresse. The message is as follows: “Welcome to the Royal Monastery of Brou. You can access the monument’s reception area under the portico through a door on the right. ”
- Guide dogs and service dogs are permitted inside the monument.
- Visually impaired visitors must be accompanied by an assistant.

- Visitor guides for blind and visually impaired visitors are available free of charge upon request at the ticket office:
- Three copies of a visitor’s guide to the Royal Monastery of Brou, in Braille and featuring thermo-expanded panels, help visitors understand the layout of the church and the three cloisters, the stained-glass window depicting the Assumption in the Chapel of the Virgin, and the three tombs located inside the church.

- Audio guides are available at the ticket office in five languages (French, English, Italian, German, and Spanish) and last 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Along the tour route
- A tactile map of the Royal Monastery of Brou is located on the right as you enter the church. A legend is provided in large print and Braille to the right of the map. This tactile map can be supplemented with elevation models during tours tailored for groups. A tactile model of the church’s façade is also available (please ask at the ticket office or church staff).
- Four tactile stations in the museum allow visitors to experience works of art through touch:
- The recumbent statues of Margaret of Austria and Philibert II of Savoy in the Chapel of the Virgin, located within the church.
- The Portrait of Margaret of Austria painted by Bernard Van Orley in the Renaissance Room.
- The painting *The Holy Family Surrounded by Saint Bernard and Saint Catherine with a Donor*, painted by Jan de Beer in the Renaissance Hall.
- The painting *The Prodigal Son Among the Courtesans*, painted by Frans Francken II in the 17th-Century Grand Siècle Hall.
- An interactive space adapted for visitors with visual impairments is located in the apartments of Margaret of Austria.
Guided tours
From time to time, themed tours or tours of temporary exhibitions are organized specifically for blind or visually impaired visitors. The fee is €6 per visually impaired person.
Sighted visitors may also participate in these tours for €11 per person.
