Installed 100 years ago within the monastery of Brou, the Fine Arts Museum is the other hidden treasure of the monument. From Flemish art of the 15th and 16th centuries to contemporary art, discover the richness of the permanent collections of the museum of the royal monastery of Brou!
THE FORMER DORMITORY OF THE MONKS BECOME MUSEUM
It is in the former room of apparat that we discover the first works of the museum, contemporary of Marguerite of Austria. It is one of the most important local collections ofNordic art, remarkable for the refinement and meticulousness of the paintings.
The cells of the former monks' dormitory house the museum rooms. We find the characteristic troubadour style, which every child has already read in his history books: these paintings of the 19th century illustrate scenes inspired by the daily life of the Middle Ages, in a fantastical and sentimental way.
During the visit, one can admire in turn a splendid Gustave Doré collection, paintings and art objects from all the European schools of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, and a collection dedicated to orientalism.
Anchored in our time, The museum's collections give pride of place to women artists and contemporary creation, and include works by Pierre Soulages, Judith Reigl, Olivier Debré, Joan Mitchell and Simon Hantaï.

MARGUERITE OF AUSTRIA, LOVER OF THE ARTS
During her lifetime, Margaret of Austria was a great lover of art. In her palace of Malines in the Netherlands, she gathers old works, gathers numerous works, engages and passes orders to the greatest artists of her time. She thus composed a rare and vast collection, today dispersed throughout Europe and whose works are exhibited in the greatest museums.
The first room of the Fine Arts Museum of the Brou Monastery brings together contemporary works of Marguerite of Austria, echoing her love for the arts.
